Files and folders on a Mac

In the Mac app, your maps live as plain files in Documents › Flozu, so Finder shows the same tree as Flozu’s Maps panel.

  • DirectoryDocuments/
    • DirectoryFlozu/
      • DirectoryPayments/ a project
        • DirectoryServices/ a folder in it
          • Orders API.flozu.json
        • Checkout system.flozu.json
      • Web app with a database.flozu.json a map not in a project
      • Directory.versions/ hidden: each map’s history
        • Directorymap_9w8ckczt9n/
          • ver_bz5w3wbvym.flozu-version.json
  • Each map is its own file, named after the map. It saves as you edit, and is renamed when you rename the map.
  • Projects and folders are real folders. Moving a map in Flozu moves its file on disk.
  • Files you drop into the folder show up on home and the Maps page.
  • Deleting a map or a folder in Flozu moves it to the Trash, so you can get it back.
  • Export (⌘E) saves a copy to Downloads, and Import (⌘O) brings files in. See import and export.
  • Show maps in Finder (⇧⌘F) opens the folder.

A map’s versions and proposals are files too, in a hidden .versions folder named after the map’s id rather than its name. Renaming a map leaves its history where it is, and deleting the map moves that folder to the Trash.

Flozu used to be called Fflo. If you have a Documents › Fflo folder, the app renames it to Documents › Flozu the first time it opens, so your maps and their history come with it. Older .fflo.json files still open, and each one takes the .flozu.json ending the next time it saves.

Because maps are ordinary files, anything that backs up or syncs your Documents folder, such as Time Machine or iCloud Drive, covers them too. To send maps to someone, export them, or share a link.

Maps an earlier version of the Mac app kept in its own browser storage are copied into the folder once, the first time a newer version opens.
